About Us

Why Start Create Biomedicines?

The shortage of biomedical products in Africa remains a public health emergency of tragic proportions. Each year, countless lives are lost due to limited access to essential diagnostics and therapies. Despite breakthroughs in global healthcare, Africa continues to rely heavily on imported biomedical products, with studies showing that 70% to 90% of medicines on the continent are sourced externally. This overdependence not only hampers timely care but also exposes the continent to vulnerabilities in global supply chains.

At Create Biomedicine, we believe that the solution must come from within. Africa is home to brilliant scientists, resourceful innovators, and an untapped potential for biomedical advancement. By empowering local talent and investing in scalable biotechnology infrastructure, we aim to revolutionize access to life-saving medical products tailored to Africa’s distinct healthcare needs.

Plant Biologist

Our Mission

To advance Africa’s healthcare landscape by developing innovative, scalable platforms for the production of protein biologics and other critical biomedical products.

Our Vision

To catalyze Africa’s self-reliance in biomedical innovation by becoming the continent’s leading hub for affordable, locally developed diagnostic and therapeutic solutions.

Our Work

Initial R&D Focus

Our research is focused on leveraging platform technologies for scalable and affordable protein bio-manufacturing. Proteins are commonly used in diagnostic and therapeutic products around the world: that includes monoclonal antibodies, enzymes, and hormones such as insulin. By developing a platform that enables both affordable and scalable production of proteins, we can bridge the manufacturing gap for essential diagnostic and therapeutic products across Africa.

Potential Applications

Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs)

Protein-based antibodies detect pathogens like malaria or HIV in minutes, enabling quick, low-cost, point-of-care diagnosis in underserved regions.

Diabetes testing kit

Enzymes for Molecular Diagnostics

Protein enzymes like polymerases enable PCR-based detection of pathogens by amplifying genetic material with high precision and sensitivity.

Laboratory Research Equipment

Recombinant
Insulin

Bioengineered protein therapy used to regulate blood sugar in diabetic patients, offering life-saving treatment for millions across Africa.
